Bringing Together America’s Top Chefs

James Beard, American Chef and food writer, is known to many as the ‘father of American gastronomy’ and upheld the highest standards in the kitchen, through his writing and as he mentored young talent. In honor of James Beard, an annual awards ceremony is held is his honor recognizing America’s top chefs, restaurants, food writers and restaurant designers.

Every year, this awards ceremony is held the first weekend in June - this year June 6th-8th. On Friday night, the 18 winners in the media category were announced. Some winners included Josh Ozersky and Daniel Maurer who write NYmag.com’s Grub Street Blog for winning the award for Multimedia Writing on Food, Tanya Steel from Epicurious.com for winning the top Website Focusing on Food, Beverage, Restaurant or Nutrition category and Howie Kahn from GQ Magazine on writing “The Wandering Chef” in June, 2007 for winning the category - Magazine Feature Writing About Restaurant and/or Chefs.

Tonight, The Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America Awards will take place at an invitation-only reception hosted by Gourmet Magazine and on Sunday, the highly awaited Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception will take place at Lincoln Center. This year, fans will be able to get a behind the scenes look at the awards as the Foundation has invited six guest food bloggers to document the happenings from the red-carpet arrivals to the post-event parties. Cheer on Zach Bell (Cafe Boulud), Michelle Bernstein (Michy’s) and Douglas Rodriguez (OLA) as they vie for the Best Chef in the South.
